“Halftime,” was the call from the former mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California (which is seldom confused with Detroit), of not just the game, but of America. Leaving aside Clint’s implied prediction of America’s demise around the year 2250, let’s focus on the prospects of an American turnaround.

The Rossville section of Staten Island, just across Arthur Kill River from New Jersey, is home to Engine Company 168 and EMS Battalion 23 of the Fire Department of New York. Like all FDNY houses, this one is a tight knit collection of New York's Bravest, albeit one of the newer ones - assembled between 2004 and 2005 from firefighters, EMTs and paramedics from all around New York City.
